Tom Bergvik

Chief Clinical officer

When Tom Bergvik was a child, he did not realize his upbringing would have such a powerful and positive impact on others in the future.

Raised in Astoria, Queens, a borough of New York City, followed by Savin Rock, a lower-class neighborhood in West Haven, Connecticut, Tom had many struggles to overcome as a child. His father was an alcoholic who was often absent from Tom’s life. His mother had to work two jobs in order to support the family, leaving Tom to parent his younger brother, to his dismay.

Tom’s childhood has been the inspiration for his impressive career and his need to help others. He began working in the mental health field in 1973, employed at Connecticut Valley Hospital, Connecticut Mental Health Center, and Mercy Housing and Shelter, among others.

In 2011, Tom completed his MA in Mental Health Counseling at Argosy University in Sarasota, Florida, and has been in Private Practice as a Nationally Certified Counselor and Licensed Professional Counselor. He is currently in private practice in Hamden, Connecticut.

Tom’s goal has always been to create positive family dynamics in a variety of different environments. He is open minded and accepting to all different cultures, unlike what was exposed to growing up with his parents.

Tom’s clear and genuine message to parents today is the importance of expressing their love to their children. When their children know they are valued and truly loved, that will provide the stepping stone for open communication, honesty and acceptance in their lives!

Tom’s work leads him to families who face certain roadblocks, such as divorce, addiction, incarceration, abuse, amongst other obstacles. No matter what a family is going through, it is still possible to embrace and apply effective parenting skills, in order to promote emotionally healthy children. Parental involvement is paramount, regardless of obstacles a family might be facing.

As Tom continues to build his clientele and explore further ways to help the community, it made sense for him to partner with Parent U Up, by Mommy Masters®, the 24/7 parenting concierge service. Having the unique constant support will provide parents with positive parenting solutions, day and night.

Tom’s belief that success occurs when you work with a family from the earliest stages is why his expertise are so important to the members of Parent U Up, by Mommy Masters®, whose parenting tools begin even before conception.

Regardless of where a child is being raised or what their economic situation is, Tom has the experience and knowledge to care, counsel, and create new learned behaviors.

He is very involved with the families in his community and cares deeply about everyone. He is currently on the youth services board in Cheshire, Connecticut, a member of the Connecticut Counseling Association, and the American Counseling Association.
